Downtime Between The Pages, Americanized Persian Comics?

By wwong - Posted on 01 June 2007

Bored of available comics, ready for something new? Or perhaps just got fired up after watching "300"?

A friend of mine, who recently watched that movie, 300, got so interested in Persian culture that he started to read some comics from Rostam Comic Book, a series of Persian comic stories that have been made for the American market.

Personally, didn't watch 300. Would have loved to, but having a child and limited options, my wife and I opted for SpiderMan 3 and Pirates 3. Both were great movies that did not fail to impress, though I still love Pirates 1 way more.

What To Expect At Rostam Comic Books

A quick visit to Rostam Comic Books will give you a sense of the details of the Persian culture that they have tried to convey in the comics. The site is very interactive and enjoyable to visit.

The drawing style is very similar to adventure style drawing like those of the older Elf Quest style comics, but more modern, and of course, featuring Persian style clothing and characters. The site contains a whole slew of interesting factoids about the history and aspects of the Persian culture, as well as a listing of main characters in the stories committed to comic book form.

The colors and comics are very bright and compelling. Definitely enjoyable from an art point of view, as well as from an entertainment point of view.

My friend swears by them, so I'm passing the word along. If you like cultural comics, this one is something to consider picking up. Visit their website and check them out! Their website makes use of CSS and Flash, so be sure that your browser is up to date! They sell goods through their site as well, so they've definitely got their whole site together.

Thanks for the tip! I Just check it out and it is wonderful. I especially liked the gallery portion of the characters section of the website where you can preview the entire comic book.

Cheers!
