Fake Ice and Other Photography Goods
It's A Hot Summer Day And Your Food Props Are Melting... Call In The Fake Ice!
Fake ice takes many forms. One common form is that of acrylic blocks that have been cast, molded, or carved... in that order of cost. :) You can also use something which is made of a polymer, which looks just like glass/ice, except that it is soft and rubbery.
All of which make for great long lasting setups, giving you more than enough time to get the shot you need/want. A little glycerin water mixture to create the illusion of condensation on an icey cold drink and you are all set... *click*
Just a quickie thought on photographing cool things in warm to hot conditions. There are also a whole range of pre-made items that can be photographed, such as fake food. Of course, you can definitely make fake ice cream from a variety of goods... in fact, I can strongly and wholeheartedly recommend "Digital Food Photography", which details, not only how to photograph food digitally, but goes into detail about the methods of creating the illusion of real food with a variety of "fake" materials!
