Summer Is A Time To Be Outdoors!

Let's face it. It's getting warmer and more and more people are out there shedding their heavier wear in favor of revealing waterside outfits that show off the results of months of intensive exercise!

As a photographer, getting out there and shooting up a storm is something I would greatly enjoy.

Have you gotten your summer photography ideas in the works?

As the weather heats up, I'm working hard to make sure that I can keep up with the action in the heat. Camera in one hand, and gesturing directions with the other, I hope to produce some truly beautiful pictures this Summer!

Getting Into the Flow and Drappery of Things

Okay, let's be brutally honest. Picture the following: Your model is standing in the summer heat, sweat is beading all over her forehead and her sundress is damp and sticking to her. A breeze is blowing, but only the few wisps of her hair that have remained dry are moving slightly.

Now.. picture this: Your model is smiling and looks refreshed, like she has just come out of an air conditioned hotel. Her sun dress catches the breeze easily and while it must be warm, she looks cool, comfortable, and seems to be having a good time. Her hair, like her dress, flows with the cool breeze.

Now, granted, there is a certain amount of exaggeration in the two examples, but the general point is there: sweating is unflattering to your model. While it seems like common sense, the best way to avoid this is to keep your model cool, whether it be shade, cool drinks, a nice clean and soft towel, or just using some large diffusers or making good use of the naturally cooling waters around you.

Another opton would be to make use of swimwear which resists behaving badly when wet! There are quite a good number of styles of outfits which are dual purposes: they are a great dress as well as great swim wear. Achieving both while still conveying sensuality and presenting your model in the most flattering way possible... leaving the task of capturing the imagery to you.

Those tips about keeping the model cool? Consider applying them to yourself as well! Nothing is worse than sweating so badly you can't see through your view finder! Yuck!

More On Swimwear and Clothing That Handles Well In Heat

So, let's say that you have access to someone who is great at knitting and/or crocheting. Better yet, you know someone who has access to a supply of stylish goods falling into the knit or crochet category of swimwear and lingerie. They would likewise be great for summer heat and/or in water photography!

The beauty of knit and crochet swimwear is that they tend to be somewhat stiffer and better at wicking away water than cloth, which tends to just hold onto it.

Because of these qualities, such swimwear also has the tendency to provide some lift and support.

It's a good opportunity for you and someone you know, who is into designing and creating such outfits, to partner up for some promotional photographs.

The best part is that such custom outfits aren't limited to just swimwear! They are also well covered in the lingerie, casual wear, and night wear styles of clothing!

Definitely not "just" holiday sweaters and scarvs!

Keep Cool, Produce Hot Shots

Just in case it has escaped being repeated: keep cool, keep hydrated, and take frequent breaks! This applies to everyone who is on the job/assignment/shoot! It's hot out there, so please keep cool!
