OMG. We've Moved!

Eventually, everyone has to pickup from where they've lived for years and just roll up their sleeves, pack up their life, and move it somewhere else. There are alot of reasons for people moving: job, life crisis, economic conditions, real estate conditions, etc. In the case of me and my family, it was to move to somewhere that had a good school district. This, btw, is a very challenging proposition, especially if you are not prepared to move into a house. :)

The electronic move

On another note about moving, I’m in one of those moods. I’ve decided that I’m moving back to Drupal from Wordpress. Yes, I originally migrated to Drupal from a custom site, then after a couple of years of Drupal, I moved to Wordpress… and now, I’m moving back to Drupal.

What I absolutely loved about WordPress:

* One click upgrades/updates
* Easy to use interface
* Very straightfoward setup

What I absolutely hated about WordPress:

* One click upgrades = loss of configurations for modules/plugins that required updating the code.
* Easy to use interface got sluggish fast.
* A misconfiguration can fubar your installation.

And so, back to Drupal it is. :) I’m still hosting through Linode. I’ve looked around, but unless I’m willing to commit to more money or less capacity, I really see no reason to leave Linode any time soon.

The physical move

Wow. We’re moved. Well, 98% of the way moved, but we’ve moved.

In addition to the electronic migration, I’ve also moved! It’s been a few years since my family and I last moved, but as with all things, there’s always a reason for a move. In this case… school disricts. The hunt for a good matchup between school districtsand a good place to live is well… exhausting. My wife has been the strong one in this endeavor, as she did all of the hunting and searching. (Thanks Hon!) Eventually, we settled on a school and apartment. Using a very reliable and courteous moving company All Reasons Moving. They got us and our furniture, some 50+ crates, and miscellaneous stuff all moved in one day. Arrived in the morning on time, got everything moved quickly and efficiently, and made our move a painless experience.
