Anything that forces a photographer to stop shooting, when the shooting is getting good, is a bad thing. Whether this is a pause to change your lens, exchange the memory card, swap batteries, or stop, because your arm and hand is tired from holding the camera from a hanging or palm up position, for that vertical shot.

This is where a vertical grip comes in handy. The Nikon D80 and the D200 support a vertical battery grip, which is installed underneath the camera body. This adds a second handle, which allows a comfortable grip to hold the camera for vertical framing and composure. The grip also allows you to install two batteries at once, allowing you to shoot longer, without interruptions.
