Lasik For The Photographer With Glasses
Switching From Glasses To... No Glasses
For most of my life, I've been wearing glasses of various levels of prescription, ranging from around 2.5 through 4.0, with varying levels of astigmatism. While I had grown used to the wearing, cleaning, replacing, and finding my glasses for some two decades, I had, since around 2000, wanted to get lasik done, but I just didn't trust the technology, given what I had heard about PRK eye surgery.
Recently, I had gotten lasik, which probably explains the lack of postings... but in truth, not really. What this post is, a short recounting of what it feels like to wear glasses, as a photographer, and to switch from glasses to post-surgery. Please, take a read, if you have been wondering about lasik, perhaps this will add to your desire or detract from it.

Wing Tang Wong, The Photographer
Wing Tang Wong, The Photographer
It seems necessary to qualify this bio/about page, with the phrase, "The Photographer", because most people know me by my other activities. As this site's primary focus is the subject of photography, I feel that whatever I post here, should be related to photography.
So, this bio page is likewise photography-centric.
Photography Pedigree
While I greatly respect those who learned the craft and trade through creative and highly respected institutions, my own education was mostly self taught. To date, I have only attended one photography class, and it was an online one, which consisted of weekly assignments, critiques, and suggestions for improvement.

Shooting At The Speed of Slow : Waterfalls
Photographing Scenes At Small Apertures
When I first started shooting, and quite often at the mall, I will encounter one of those large backlit displays with the flowing waterfalls. You know the ones, the waterfall is all feathery and the light behind it makes it look like the water is flowing. I really don't like those displays... :)
But what I DO like, is the photography. Those beautiful and ethereal photographs of moving water, turned mist or made dreamy, through the use of long exposures.
This is something that anyone can do, provided they have a tripod, a camera that can be set for slightly longer exposures, and a lens or lens and filter, that can be stepped down, to reduce the light coming in through the lens to the camera. Did I mention a tripod would be helpful? ;)

A Couple of Black and White Studies
Simple Conversations Lead To Experimentation: Black and White Studies
A little while ago, I had started to bring some matte prints of my photographs to post, where I work. Got some good comments and some of the other photographers seemed stoked about their own photography. In talking about photography... mine, theirs, and just in general, I got two key things:
- The Concept of Black and White Studies
- There are some extremely good photographers at work. :)

Photography From Florida
OMG! It's a Photography Posting!
Yes, it would seem that I've been posting about many photography goods, but little about my own photography. One little known tidbit is that I do publish my images online, I just happen to publish them on other sites, forums, etc. Usually specific to the kind of photography that I do. Hey, when it comes to my own site, I lean more towards text than images. Weird, I know. :)
This particular photograph on the right is a Monarch Butterfly, which I photographed in Florida at one of the zoos with my 70-200mm lens.
